Priorities and the future.
December 4, 2011 at 11:43 am | Posted in Words from Hal | 1 CommentFirst, I again want to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts.
The BookMark hours will remain the same, except for being closed today. I might not be there for a couple of days or so, but, Emilcar will be. It will probably take me that long to get over the shock..my emotions are too raw to talk about Harold right away.
I will be contacting people as a group or as individuals depending on the circumstances. Also, I’ll be checking Harold’s email, but since I’m not really comfortable doing that, I’ll be using my own address: Ellis_m_1@yahoo.com.
It’s far too early to predict how things are going to work out, and solid answers about the far future will have to wait until I get certain things organized/resolved, both financially and legally, concerning Harold and the Bookmark itself. Needless to say, the store will stay open.
In reference to Harold, he had a contract to be cremated in Panama City, and he didn’t want any type of religious memorial service. However, I’ll be writing to some of you and discussing some ways to honor his memory.
Concerning the Bookmark, Harold turned it over to me and I’ll run it until it is sold. I’m not sure when it will officially go on the market, because I need to figure out how long it will take to pay off whatever debts Harold/Bookmark owed, and to give some time for the employees to prepare themselves in case the new owner(s) plan to move the store, get new personnel, etc.
Harold instructed me to sell the store for $150,000. When it is sold, the money will be divided up between Harold’s family, charity and me. After that, well, the fates will decide.
About the blog and a running social commentary…I have neither the wit or skill or even the inclination to try to follow in Harold’s footsteps. All I can say is that Harold and I thought alike when it came to the “big picture” and I’ll be limiting my posts to BookMark and book issues.
I’ll keep you guys informed as best as possible.
Again, thanks for everything.
PS: As a side-note, Gimp the cat will be staying at the store.
Michael

I was just thinking….that something I said from a previous post might be misunderstood….

I meant that I do not intend to comment on the social/religion/political…etc issues of the world on this blog.
BTW, books are universal.
